Show Description:
Where do you look to know who you are? In this riveting and unique multimedia show entitled “The Digital Sense,” creator and performer Calypso clowns and dances from being stardust in the cosmos to a child of the digital age, and from the live stage onto the projected screen. Influenced by her real-life experience of growing up in southern California with sitcom role-models and cartoon best friends, this show is the fulfillment of Calypso’s long hoped-for dream that the over-produced images on the screen would somehow talk back and relate to her personal moment. See Calypso be born, search of herself, play games with her digital twin, get caught in her own traps, meet characters along the way, and discover the power and beauty of magic. Created in part through a nine-month artist-in-residency at the Garage Theater in 2009, “The Digital Sense” calls attention to our culture’s stories of time and identity, and how the proliferation of the digital image is transforming our most intimate understanding of who we are. Calypso’s work examines and ignites our awareness of being alive, inspiring laughter and play in the face of adversity. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Art Practice and the Clown Conservatory of the San Francisco Circus Center. Calypso has toured nationally performing in theaters, festivals, universities and street corners. In the spring she will tour with The Dreamtime Circus to Peru to perform and teach circus skills to children while investigating clowning, ecology, and consciousness.
